Christians support climate change campaign

undefinedMembers from several Wirral churches including three Anglican ones walked to Hilbre Island at the tip of the peninsula recently to show solidarity with environment campaigners and the Paris Climate Change Convention.

St Bridget's Church, West Kirby, Christ Church, Higher Bebington, and St Mary's in Upton joined with Christians of other denominations at the island to hear various speakers, including Andy Gibb of Transition West Kirby. Our picture was taken by the Revd Graeme Skinner, the Vicar at Upton.

Representatives from the Avaaz campaigns group were present for the discussions about the dangers of flooding and other damage that climate change can cause in coastal areas, and various environmental issues.

The event on Hilbre was linked to local Litter Picks held on Wirral – also intended to demonstrate support for environmental action as well as bringing practical benefits to the area.

St Mary's at Upton also held a meditation on the issues around climate change – reflecting its Eco-Congregation Status and links with Tearfund and with A Rocha (Christians in conservation).
