Bromborough church's Christmas tree fest 2014

undefinedSt Barnabas' church in Bromborough, Wirral, held a Christmas tree festival for the first time this year. Our picture shows Rector Jenny Gillies, Bishop Keith Sinclair and parishioner Jenny Hope by one of the exhibits.

Last Christmas was the Revd Jenny Gillies’ first in the parish and she was mindful of the fact that the church was closed on the day of the Bromborough Christmas market.

It was agreed that this year the church should be open for a Christmas tree festival – to show the community that St Barnabas’ is their parish church.

The festival took place in the church on Friday 5 December through to Sunday 7 December. More than 20 trees were exhibited. Bishop Keith walked around the festival and then visited Bromborough village accompanied by Jenny Gillies who wore a 'Santa onesie'.

The church family collected white decorations for a special tree in the sanctuary. Other church groups, including the Brownies, Guides and Scouts, put their trees up, as did local traders.

The festival followed a series of very successful celebrations and events recently to mark the 150th anniversary of the consecration of the present St Barnabas’ church.
