Bishop Libby visit to Edgeley school

undefinedThe children and staff of St Matthew's C of E primary school in Edgeley, Stockport, enjoyed a visit by Bishop Libby recently. St Matthew's is the first school to be part of Chester Diocesan Academies Trust (CDAT) a multi-academy trust set up by our Board of Education to support church schools.

The bishop was pleased to say ‘yes’ when the children wrote to invite her to look around the school and lead worship there.

Bishop Libby met the school’s first Ethos group – set up to enable children to have a role in developing a distinctly Christian ethos for St Matthew’s.

The pupils asked +Libby what it was like to be the Church of England’s first woman bishop. They also told her they’d been praying for her.

St Matthew’s has undergone a transformation and improvements over the past two years. It had been placed in special measures by the schools inspection body Ofsted in 2012. But on 1 January 2014 it opened as an academy sponsored by CDAT.

After a lot of work by CDAT officers, working with staff, governors and pupils at St Matthew’s, the school has improved immensely. It achieved its best results this year. All Year 6 children were recorded as making two levels of progress in reading.
