Alsager church's middle east peace concert

undefinedA renowned Palestinian/Jewish piano duo will perform at St Mary's Alsager over the weekend of 15 and 16 March. Performing under the name Duo Amal (amal means hope in Arabic) Bishara Harony and Yaron Kohlberg will first play a concert of popular classical pieces, starting at 7.30pm on Saturday 15 March.

They will give a second ‘bonus event’ performance, this time featuring Bishara’s wife, the violinist Adi, on Sunday 16 March at 3pm, also in St Mary’s. At this event the musicians will also meet the audience and talk about their work for peace

Duo Amal give concerts for peace and reconciliation around the world – to great critical acclaim from such maestros as Daniel Barenboim and Zubin Mehta.

They particularly enjoy engaging with the audience as they talk about the ways in which music transcends so many boundaries and can foster peace and reconciliation.

For Bishara this will be his second visit to St Mary’s. Along with his wife Adi, he played a thank you concert at the church last May. This was to thank the people of south Cheshire and north Staffordshire who have supported his musical career ever since the Revd Bernard and Sheila Moss first met him on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land where his father Khalil is a Palestinian Christian guide.

The Revd and Mrs Moss were so impressed by Bishara’s  musical potential ( he was then aged just 10) that they spearheaded a campaign to raise £10k to purchase and send out to his home in Nazareth a boudoir grand piano.

Ever since then Bishara has gone from strength to strength. He has played in many of the great concert venues round the world and appeared in the BBC Proms in 2012.

Tickets for the Alsager concert cost £25 . A donation will be made to the scholarship fund of the Royal Northern College of Music to encourage and support young musicians setting out on their musical careers. For further details phone 01270 879114 (ansaphone).

Or send a self -addressed stamped envelope to: St Mary Magdalene Church, Crewe Road, Alsager ST7 2EW with a cheque payable to St Mary’s PCC.

Concert ticket holders will be able to attend the ‘bonus event’ on the Sunday free-of-charge. Those wishing to come just to the Sunday event are invited to turn up on the day, when a donation of £10 is welcome towards the charitable gift to be given to the Royal Northern College of Music.
