A great course in Runcorn

undefinedOne of the best examples of practical help offered to hard-pressed people by the church is the Credit Crunch Cookery Course at All Saints' Church, Runcorn.

The cookery classes are intended for those on a limited budget. Associate Minister the Revd Marion Hayes says: “We set them up for two reasons. Firstly, because a lot of the mums have never learned to cook …. secondly because some mums are just so short of money that they don’t know how to cook well and how to cook cheaply.

“The benefits are that the mums get to take home a two-course meal for a family of four for just two pounds. They get an idea of what it is to cook well-balanced meals and to eat well. At the end of the course they get a recipe book to take home.

“The hidden benefits are that they use three methods of education – doing, hearing and seeing. Because they learn in three methods it tends to be that they remember the recipes and we have good feedback that the mums go on to use the cookery books when they return home after the course.”
