@ Saturday Cafe STiockport April 2014

undefinedSt Matthew's Church, Edgeley, Stockport, is becoming a hub for the community through its @SaturdayCafe initiative. Using connections built up over recent years from other community events, St Matthew's is now a hive of activity on Saturday mornings

Vicar David Brewster said: “We have always opened our doors for tea and coffee on Saturday morning, but we wanted to do so much more to help our community and so our idea for @Saturday Cafe idea took shape.”

Pam Robinson, the parish’s Community Development Manager, explained the engagement with the local community:  “We now host regular surgeries for the local police team and PCSOs, which is helping us to build links with crime prevention and anti-social behaviour teams.

“We also have a monthly pop-in session where we invite different community groups to come and meet local people. We have really enjoyed having Healthy Stockport and the local Scout group along, with Signpost for Carers coming along soon. Other groups are getting in touch with us to see if they can host a session later in the year.”
