A new book by the Revd Magdalen Smith ...

undefinedA new book by Magdalen Smith aims to connect our present-day yearnings and wrestlings to pray better – with those of the mystics and holy people from the Christian past. Understanding prayer as something which is actively lived rather than set apart, the author helps us recover and transform our inner spaces, through focusing on concepts such as ‘gaze’, ‘deep’, ‘thank’, ‘link’ and ‘dream’.

In Fragile Mystics, Magdalen (our Diocesan Director of Ordinands) offers practical advice on putting the concepts listed in the above paragraph into practice … for individual readers and for those who are leading groups.

Bishop Keith writes of the new book: “The mystics, both medieval and modern, bring a welcome invitation to be still, adore, face the reality of darkness and grow above all in the love of God which, as Paul says, ‘surpasses knowledge’ (Ephesians 3 v 19). If prayerfulness is diminishing in your life or ministry, Magdalen Smith’s quiet skill will help you see that it doesn’t have to be this way.”

The book will be published next month (15 November) by SPCK, at £10.99. For more information and to buy a copy email Orders@macmillan.co.uk
