Promoting MU across the land

Jeanette Appleton, from Newton, West Kirby, organised a relay bus journey from Land's End to John O'Groats recently to promote the work of the Mothers' Union. The journey - using only local, time-tabled public buses - began on 9 August, which is Mary Sumner Day. It was Mary who founded the Mothers’ Union in 1876.

The MU Worldwide President, Rosemary Kempsell, was on the bus in Scotland. The 'Mothers on the move' event highlighted the work MU does across the world, particularly the work of the charity’s Community Development Coordinators, who frequently travel great distances to bring training and advice to isolated families and communities.

Members from different provinces in the UK took part in the trip. Members in Chester diocese joined Jeanette in Pulford to travel into Chester and then others – including MU Diocesan President Angela Klabou – travelled from Chester to Warrington and Liverpool.

In all, Jeanette travelled from Exeter to Dumfries, with overnight stops with local MU members around the country. She is pictured above right with Lynn Haggerty and the Chester branch banner in front of the bus to Warrington.
