Married by my Mum!

Bride Jenny, groom Wesley and Vicar Janet on the happy dayThe Vicar of St Thomas's in High Lane, Stockport, conducted a special wedding service recently - when the woman getting married was her daughter. The Revd Janet Parker travelled to Walton-le-Dale near Preston to lead the service which saw her daughter Jenny marry her childhood sweetheart Wesley Hartley.

The wedding took place in St Leonard’s Church – in a part of Lancashire where Janet Parker grew up. She came to faith at St Leonard’s and was herself married there.

Vicar Janet – who is also Rural Dean for Chadkirk – said: “The Bishop of Blackburn very kindly gave me permission to officiate at Jenny and Wesley’s service. It was a wonderful moment, seeing my daughter walking down the aisle on the arm of my husband. It was extremely moving. A lot of memories were stirred.”

Janet’s daughter Jenny, a 31-year-old international trade adviser, married Wesley, also 31, a financial grants analyst. Pictured: bride Jenny, groom Wesley and Vicar Janet on the happy day.

Jenny said: She said: “It was amazing to have mum officiating over it, it just made it all the more special on the day. There was quite a big significance about the church because I have been going there since I was a young child.”

The wedding party enjoyed a great reception at the famous inn at Whitewell in the Trough of Bowland, Lancs. The newlyweds then enjoyed a  honeymoon in the south of France.
