What will we learn on the course?
The shape of our modern culture and the diversity of the world around us. The emerging shape of the church as it speaks to the diversity of people in our culture. We will explore how to listen to God to discover how God is already at work in the church and in the world. How to make new disciples and sustain them in our complex world. How to begin a fresh expression of church. How to sustain and grow a fresh expression of church.
Who is the course for?
People who know that things need to change in the church, if it is to thrive within our emerging culture. People who have it on their hearts to reach the kinds of people that traditional church does not reach - and who want to know how. People who want to grow in their faith within a mission context, rather than in the context of maintaining and developing more traditional expressions of Christian faith. For those who whose Christian involvement could be refreshed by commitment to a pioneer model of church. For leaders who want to help their churches into development and growth, in ways that take our contemporary context seriously.
How long is the course?
Twenty four sessions taught over one year - beginning January 2008. Six evenings. (The evening sessions will be taught in two centres within the diocese - east and west.) Three Saturdays. One weekend. (The weekend is booked at Burton Manor on the Wirral ; 25 - 27 April, 2008)
What will it cost?
£260 - inclusive of the weekend away at Burton Manor. Your local church may consider the course so essential to its mission strategy that the PCC will be willing to share the costs with you - ask your vicar. If you find the cost of the course prohibitive and can not find local help with costs contact Richard Burton the Parish Mission Development Officer.
