This programme of six courses is designed to offer a broad training in a number of areas of pastoral care carried out by people in parishes. The courses are mainly practical, though there is some work on the theory and Christian belief behind the practice. Anyone coming on the courses should be prepared for small group work, discussion, & practical exercises as part of the learning.

The courses are being run with 3 on each side of the Diocese - 3 in the Macclesfield Archdeaconry and 3 in the Chester Archdeaconry.

Each year they will swap round - so Listening, Bereavement and Ministry with the Sick will run on the Chester side of the Diocese in 2007-08 and on the Macclesfield side in 2008-09.  This means that in a 2-year period you can do all of the courses without travelling too far.

Open to Anyone

All six of these courses are part of the training programme for people training to be licensed as Pastoral Workers. However, the courses are open to anyone, to do as few or as many as they want.

Anyone who is involved in pastoral work in the parish in the relevant areas (such as baptism preparation & follow-up, bereavement care, organising volunteers, etc) can use these courses to develop their knowledge and skills. Clergy, Readers and others may want to use these courses as part of their continuing training and development.

Priority is given to people already selected to train as Pastoral Workers, so apply quickly if you want a place.

Optional Assessment

There is the option to do some accredited assessment as part of this course. Those training as Pastoral Workers need to do the assessments but it's available as an option for anyone.
