Shrinking the Footprint The Church of England's 'Shrinking the Footprint' campaign is gathering speed as it responds to General Synod's charge to the Church to engage with climate change and work on reducing its carbon emissions by 2008.
What is our diocese doing to reduce its footprint? 'Measuring our footprint' - we have responded to this audit and provided a baseline for measuring energy use in our churches.
Environment Group - we have brought people together with the practical experience of energy saving solutions and knowledge of environmental concerns to help us resource parishes and the diocese.
Environment Resource Pack - the group have produced a pack of new and 'tried and tested' materials to encourage churches to mark Environment Sunday in June or at any other time of the year. The pack includes; ideas for worship, activities, church magazine articles and useful links. To download the Pack, click here
Lead by example - Church House has undertaken an environmental audit and is putting into place practical measures to reduce their carbon footprint.
Sharing best practice - we will be sharing examples of what parishes are doing to help stimulate ideas and action through the diocesan newsletter.
Next steps: Energy saving and renewable sources of energy There are so many ideas, often conflicting that we want to be sure to present viable and sustainable solutions that will reduce the impact on the environment and maybe even cut costs. We are working with the DAC, Energy Saving Trust (Freephone 0800 512 012) and other agencies to provide the most appropriate information, support and resources to parishes in our diocese.
Low energy light bulb library We have put this together because parishes tell us that they have difficulty in finding the right low energy bulb for the fittings in their church buildings. We will be taking this around deaneries from June 2007.
